Challenges in hand

Agriculture accounts for 13% of global greenhouse gas emissions and, due to climate variability, food security and safety are at risk. As cities depend on food supply to sustain their living standards, human and financial costs of inaction are high. In response, cities seek climate-friendly food production while integrating it in urban systems to increase resilience.

Mitigating climate change through resource efficiency is challenging. As such, materialising circular economy demands innovation. This paradigm integrates the reuse of water and more and more water smart cities pursue such solutions. In urban food production, energy and water are two key inputs, and so both shall be considered for its sustainability. 70% of water abstraction worldwide is used for agriculture.

Alongside climate change, more people move to cities. These are denser and that pushes cities to maximise the use of urban spaces. The Rain Flower is an answer to that call.
